Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) has reached high levels of acceptance in industry as a valid design tool thanks to the introduction and improvement of new and existing software, and the rapid development in hardware. However, even though the lead times for solving fluid related problems have been drastically reduced, and more and more problems of different nature can be solved, there are still limitations and flaws with the existing software and traditional methodology that greatly increase the difficulty of setting up complex models from CAD preparation to results. ICON has focused on identifying these flaws, and proposing recommendations on the existing CAD to CFD practices to continually reduce set up times in complex models. CAD to CFD practices are considered in relation to the other processes in product development and optimisation.
