Koenigsegg and ICON present the world’s first production megacar at Hannover Messe

Windsor, UK and Ängelholm, Sweden 14 April 2016

ICON collaborated in a Case Study with Koenigsegg, a leading designer and manufacturer of high-performance sports cars based in Sweden. Their brief was to develop the world’s first production megacar (1MW of power output). This required equally ground-breaking aerodynamic capabilities which are normally beyond the means of an SME such as Koenigsegg. The Fortissimo Case Study allowed a new cloud-based business model to be developed and analysed. This allowed Koenigsegg to conduct 100% of the aerodynamic development of the Koenigsegg One:1 using HPC-based CFD simulations in the cloud. In less than eight months, hundreds of simulations were carried out to test various configurations. The results were an impressive 250% increase in down-force with only a 15% increase in drag at 250km/h and with a 50% higher down-force at 440km/h, the ground-breaking vehicle’s maximum speed.

The Koenigsegg One:1 megacar and the ICON cloud-based simulation platform, used to develop the car, will be shown at Hannover Messe 2016.

Barack Obama, President of the United States will join German Chancellor Angela Merkel to open HANNOVER MESSE 2016.
